The Alexander City Chamber of Commerce held its annual Professional Development Summit and Business Expo on October 27, 2011 at the Betty Carol Graham Technology Center. AERN provided an exhibit table of information on resources available at the local Center. Outreach Coordinator Mary Patterson networked with business leaders, handed out candy, and collected business cards to award a door prize. The Summit's featured speaker, Richard Flint, presented his program on "A Day At The Zoo". The informative presentation used extensive research and humor to teach leaders how to turn difficult people in the workplace into valuable assets. The Business Expo was well-attended by Alexander City Chamber members who stopped by the AERN exhibit to inquire about its services.

Jake's Restaurant
Jake's Restaurant in Alexander City is an AERN success story.

After the program, Ms. Patterson and Marvin Wagoner, Alexander City Chamber President, visited local entrepreneur Jake Mixon and his father, Mike Mixon, to get an update on the success of Jake's Restaurant. The Mixons used AERN resources to develop a business plan before opening their restaurant. They are grateful to AERN and the Chamber for providing invaluable education on designing a plan for projecting expenses and profits necessary to be successful. Jake's Restaurant continues to meet and exceed the owner's expectations and sales targets as outlined in the original plan.
