AERN Co-Sponsors a Workshop for Entrepreneurs in Washington County
Outreach Coordinator Mary Patterson led a workshop for entrepreneurs sponsored by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and Public Library on September 8, 2011 in Chatom. Approximately twelve businesses were in attendance as Library Director Jessica Ross and Chamber Director Brooke Atchison provided a light lunch to those attending. Ms. Patterson presented a PowerPoint explanation of how AERN resources can benefit new and existing businesses with computer software, resource books, helpful websites, and the "Ask a Business Librarian" feature on the AERN website. She led discussions on writing business plans, how to get information on business loans, accounting system set-ups, marketing, and networking in today's business environment. The business leaders were eager to discuss the challenges and successes that they were experiencing, and valued the support provided by the local chamber and The University of Alabama's AERN program in providing education necessary for a successful business in a rural community.
